The History, BA - Secondary Education program is designed to prepare students for a career in teaching history at the secondary school level.

The program provides students with a broad understanding of the discipline of history and the skills needed to analyze, research, record, and interpret historical events and timelines. 


Focus of Study

The program provides a comprehensive study of history that includes the histories of Europe and the U.S., global histories, histories of Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East, and global history. The program emphasizes the development of teaching skills and the ability to interpret historical events and timelines.

Program Coursework

The History, BA - Secondary Education program requires a minimum of 30 credit hours of coursework in History, including 18 credit hours of upper-division coursework. Students must earn grades of C or better in their history courses and complete HIST 4990 Senior Thesis Seminar after taking 9 hours of HIST courses. In addition, students must complete 42 hours of education courses, including core courses and professional year courses.
